PROSPECT AREA MOBILITY STUDY

ladams2017-02-06T21:21:05-05:00February 23, 2010|

Jefferson County, Kentucky

CLIENT City of Prospect
PROJECT MANAGER Tom H. Springer, AICP, CEP

Project detail.
This study focused on developing a plan to improve vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian interconnectivity in and around the city of Prospect, primarily between the residential areas and the commercial core referred to as the Prospect Village Center. The goals were reduced congestion on US 42; increased opportunities for walking, jogging, biking, and social interaction; and improved quality of life, including environmental stewardship.

During the development of alternatives, consideration was given to planned projects such as the 100-mile-long ??Louisville Loop? multi-use trail and the US 42 widening from the Harrods Creek Bridge to River Road in Prospect.

Input from Prospect residents and community leaders via meetings and an online survey was a key element in identifying and prioritizing a wish-list of community enhancements. Based on the input, sidewalks, multi-use trails, bicycle facilities, and increased vehicular connections were among the high priorities recommended in the study. The study??s Alternative Prioritization Matrix provided project descriptions, lengths, estimated costs, and timing (long or short term implementation).

Mayor Todd Eberle praised the study, noting:
“We are extremely pleased with the detail and the readability of this Report. We sought a plan for alternative transportation projects which would enhance walk-ability and bicycling activity in the city.  This Study gave us just that.”
