Project Description
General Engineering Consulting
Kentucky
Qk4 has been the general engineering consultant (GEC); a member of a GEC team and prime on multi-consultant, complex improvement projects in Kentucky. Our GEC philosophy is to have a single point of contact for the project and to provide regular communication to achieve schedule. This established management procedure – coupled with our experience – yields success for our clients.
Qk4 is part of the GEC for the review of the contractor’s plan development for downtown sections of the project. Leading into that task, Qk4 was the project manager for both the design of relocated downtown approaches to the Kennedy Bridge (affectionately known as Spaghetti Junction) and the design for a solution that would keep existing roads in place. We developed the Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement. What’s more, we purchased rights of way and easements for the project.
Qk4 is the is the lead for the GEC for this eastern Kentucky project for widening the Mountain Parkway to four lanes from two for a 57-mile stretch from Campton to Prestonsburg. Our role is to coordinate design through construction; obtain all environmental reevaluations all permits, review all designs including structure and geotechnical engineering, assist with right-of-way acquisition, and assist with construction management and inspection.
Qk4 was the project manager overseeing and providing design for the 18-mile interstate widening to six lanes from four in eastern Jefferson County to KY 53 in Shelby County. The project included preliminary engineering and environmental document approval. Final design included right of way plans, structure plans, final drainage design and geometric approvals for three existing interchange re-designs.
